Credit: NASA/ESA/Hubble Heritage Team Wednesday, February 15, 2017: Happy birthday, Galileo! The Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei was born 453 years ago today. Among his many achievements, Galileo discovered Jupiter’s four largest moons: Io, Ganymede, Europa and Callisto. By now astronomers have discovered at least 67 moons orbiting Jupiter. The Hubble Space Telescope watched three of these four Galilean moons and their shadows during a rare triple transit on Jan. 24, 2015. — Hanneke Weitering
