Using new software, astronomers sifted through 650 hours of Green Bank Telescope data to uncover an elusive Fast Radio Burst (FRB). Occurring in a fraction of a second these extremely bright events are very hard pinpoint. The new detection, FRB 110523, has been narrowed down to a “highly magnetized region of space,” possibly a supernova or an star-forming nebula.
