Astronomers using the HAWK-I infrared instrument on on the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) Very Large Telescope (VLT) have peered deeply into the well-known Orion constellation nebula. “About ten times as many brown dwarfs and isolated planetary-mass objects,” can be seen in the new infrared imagery, according to the ESO. Also, HAWK-I’s infrared views are compared to visible views from the WFI camera on the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope.
