J.J. Abrams has agreed to return to the “Star Wars” franchise to co-write/direct/produce 2019’s “Star Wars: Episode IX.” This comes after the departure of original director Colin Trevorrow .
“With ‘The Force Awakens,’ J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Abrams plans to co-write the film with Chris Terrio (“Justice League,” “Argo”).
“Star Wars: Episode IX” is scheduled to be released May 24, 2019.
