The European Space Agency’s Rosetta mission has returned data on gases and elements from comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko that are essential for life and understanding how the solar system formed. Its record setting near fly-bys have delivered breathtaking imagery. In Sept. 2016, the mission will meet its end with a controlled descent into the comet’s surface.
